The Department of Social Policy at the ÖH JKU Linz is your first point of contact for all questions regarding financial aid, insurance, mobility, housing, barrier-free studying and studying with children. Our staff are available for personal counselling at sozialreferat@oeh.jku.at or directly on site.

Our most important task is to advise students. Due to our central location in the lecture theatre wing of the Kepler building (opposite Hall B), we hope to be quickly and easily accessible for you. Our office and a highly motivated team are just waiting to give you a helping hand. The brochure racks in front of the department also offer you the opportunity to get the information you need in passing.

State aid and support

In addition to gainful employment, state funding or special scholarships can make a significant contribution and help to finance your studies.

ÖH grants

In addition to state subsidies and support services, the ÖH JKU will also help you in difficult situations with the following grants

ÖH JKU Social Fund

The ÖH JKU Social Fund is a fund that helps students of the JKU Linz in special social and financial emergencies. The social fund is a voluntary subsidy of the ÖH JKU Linz, therefore there is no legal entitlement to this support.

Who can apply?

In general, any student at the JKU can apply for support from the ÖH JKU Social Fund from the first semester of enrolment if the applicant's studies are at risk due to their current financial situation. Support from the ÖH JKU Social Fund can be granted three times during the entire period of study.

What requirements must be met?

The prerequisite for support from the ÖH JKU Social Fund is, on the one hand, the existence of social need as defined by the social fund guidelines of the ÖH JKU Linz and, on the other hand, proof of serious and determined studies.

Serious or purposeful study is fulfilled if the following ECTS points or semester hours per week can be presented:

For regular students

  • in the 2nd semester: at least 8 ECTS credits or 4 credit hours per semester
  • from the 2nd semester: at least 16 ECTS credits or 8 SWSt. per academic year

NEW:

  • From SS23, students may apply from the 1st semester onwards

For non-degree students

  • in the 2nd semester: at least 6 ECTS credits or 3 SWSt. per semester
  • from the 2nd semester: at least 12 ECTS credits or 6 SWSt. per academic year
    therefore an extract from Kusss is required to see which courses are being taken

NEW:

  • from SS23 students may apply from the 1st semester onwards
    therefore an extract from Kusss is required to see which courses are being taken

Application deadlines:

  • Winter semester: 10 September to 15 December
  • Summer semester: 10 February to 15 May

You can apply for support from the ÖH JKU Social Fund once per semester.

Please fill out the application form and send all necessary documents that apply to you by e-mail to the Social Department! Only applications submitted by e-mail will be accepted.

Tip: If you receive support from the ÖH JKU Social Fund, you also have the opportunity to receive a "Hunger for Art & Culture" cultural pass from the ÖH Social Department.

Please note: It is not possible to apply for the ÖH JKU Social Fund and the Federal ÖH Social Fund at the same time due to double funding!

ÖH JKU Mental Health Fund

What is the Mental Health Fund?

With the newly established Mental Health Fund, the ÖH JKU would like to financially support students who seek psychological or psychotherapeutic care. 50 percent of the deductible for therapy hours (amount minus the insurance provider's benefit) will be covered by the ÖH JKU, provided that the deductible is not disproportionately high.

How can I submit an application?

How often can I submit an application?

The ÖH JKU Mental Health Fund is capped at a maximum amount of €500 per student. You can apply once per semester (even if you are just starting therapy) and you will receive a percentage of the deductible up to the maximum amount for the invoices you submit.

What are the requirements?

  • Active studies at the Johannes Kepler University Linz
  • social need as defined by the ÖH JKU Mental Health Fund guidelines
  • Regular students: 16 ECTS or 8 semester credits per academic year
    Associate students: 12 ECTS or 6 semester credits per academic year
  • Eligible mental health care as defined by the ÖH JKU Mental Health Fund guidelines

ÖH JKU Tuition Fee Social Fund

JKU students subject to tuition fees who have received support from the ÖH JKU Social Fund or the Federal ÖH Social Fund in the current semester due to their social need can apply to the ÖH Social Department of the ÖH JKU Linz for support from the Tuition Fee Social Fund. Support from the ÖH Tuition Fee Social Fund can be granted three times during the entire period of study.

ATTENTION: This is only possible TOGETHER with the ÖH JKU Social Fund or the Federal ÖH Social Fund! It cannot be applied for individually!

The following criteria must be met for the application:

  • Regular or non-degree programme at the JKU
  • Obligation to pay tuition fees
  • social need (ÖH JKU Social Fund or Federal ÖH Social Fund)
  • Proof of a serious and determined study programme

A serious or purposeful study programme is fulfilled if the following ECTS credits or semester hours per week can be presented in each academic year:

For regular students

  • in the 2nd semester: at least 8 ECTS credits or 4 credit hours per semester
  • from the 2nd semester: at least 16 ECTS credits or 8 credit hours per semester per academic year

For non-degree students

  • in the 2nd semester: at least 6 ECTS credits or 3 SWSt. per semester
  • from the 2nd semester: at least 12 ECTS credits or 6 SWSt. per academic year

In cases of particular hardship, one-time non-fulfilment of this requirement may be recognised.

Application deadlines:

  • Winter semester: 10 October to 15 December
  • Summer semester: 10 March to 15 May

The application deadline does not apply to applications submitted on the basis of a positive decision by the Federal ÖH!

The financial means for the ÖH Tuition Fee Social Fund are kindly provided by the JKU. There is no legal entitlement to support from the ÖH Tuition Fee Social Fund. For further information on the ÖH Tuition Fee Social Fund, please contact the ÖH Social Department of the ÖH JKU Linz.
