The Political Heart of ÖH JKU

The University Representation

The University Representation consists of 17 elected Mandates from different 'Fraktionen' (comparable to political parties). They meet at least twice per semester for meetings. Together, they decide on ÖH JKU's bduget, appoint department heads and make political decisions in the form of motions. These motions are binding on ÖH JKU's Chair and its departments, thus determining the strategic goals and daily work of ÖH JKU.

Meetings of ÖH JKU are public and live-streamed. Information on upcoming meetings as well as documentation on previous meetings can be found on the link below.

Similar to meeting documents, ÖH JKU's Statutes and Finances are public as well, as are all resolved Freedom of Information (IFG) requests.

What does UV actually do?

The University Representation as a political body primarily takes the form of meetings.

Naturally, there is much more going on in the ÖH than just two meetings per semester, however: The operational business of the UV is primarily handled by its Chair and its Departments. Although they can be bound to perform certain actions by the other UV mandates during meetings, they also do a lot autonomously within the scope of their respective areas of responsibility.
For example, the chair of the ÖH JKU is in regular contact with the Rectorate and other important bodies at the university, while departments hold weekly office hours or manage ÖH's social media accounts.

The UV also participates in various committees: For example, students are represented in the University Senate and other important working groups at JKU to represent your interests.
