We are your legally established student representatives. As such, we advocate for the concerns of law students (whether MMJUS, BacJUS or JUS) at the JKU and are your mouthpiece vis-à-vis the professors. We also offer you numerous services (from advice on your studies to brochures) to make your everyday life as a student easier. With numerous events, we also try to give you the opportunity to continue your education alongside your studies or to make contacts in the world of work (and of course, we don't forget to have fun).
In short: we are your contacts and you can contact us at any time if you have any problems or questions during your studies!

If you complete the courses from Public Law in the second section, you will receive up to 8 points for the AG Public Law II. Until now, however, this crediting only worked if you completed the courses in the same semester as the AG.
This often caused problems, as the courses are only available in person in the winter semester and only online in the summer semester, which meant that many students took the courses in the winter semester even though they had only planned to take the AG in the summer semester.
Thanks to many discussions between the ÖH Jus and the Institute of Public Law, this problem no longer exists: course credits can now be transferred within an academic year (i.e. from the winter to the summer semester)! The regulation applies from SS24.
In the Criminal Law II course in particular, students were often under enormous time pressure during the first exams (previously 2 hours to complete) and were often unable to complete their exams due to a lack of time, even if they already had the necessary knowledge.
In a discussion with Prof Birklbauer, we were able to extend the completion time for the two first exams. Students now have 2.5 hours to complete the exam!
Kind regards,
Elena Lautner (Faculty Chairperson ÖH JUS)

As ÖH JUS, we always endeavour to make your studies easier. To this end, we have designed a number of brochures to help you in your everyday study life. From the term paper guide to the multimedia brochure to the specialisation brochure - there is something helpful for everyone.
Our commentary gives you an overview of all the subjects that will take place in the coming semester and their requirements.
It also contains a sample study plan for the first and second semesters.
Iuris Acta is the student newspaper of the ÖH JUS. In the Iuris Acta we always try to pick up interesting topics for law students. Each issue is dedicated to a specific topic, which is dealt with in interviews with professors or practitioners or other texts by our editors. You will also receive all the news from your student council in every issue of Iuris Acta.
So it's definitely worth taking a look!
Enjoy reading,
Nadja Ratzenböck (Iuris Acta Editor-in-Chief)
The ÖH JUS house library offers you a wide range of textbooks that you can borrow free of charge.
A book is no longer available in the library? No problem - just come to the Juskammerl and borrow the book from the in-house library!
How does it work exactly?
Simply come to the Juskammerl during our office hours, fill out a form and you will receive the book.
You can borrow the book for 8 weeks and then extend it for another 3 weeks. You can find our current book offer on Instagram in our story highlight "Hausbib" or in our house library register.
Together with the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Law, we at ÖH JUS have launched a new internship programme - the Law In Practice Internship.
The aim of the Law In Practice Internship is to have your legal internships recognised through ECTS in various courses and to acquire a certificate that is valuable for the professional world through a certain combination of internships.
How exactly does this work?
You have to combine two different internships according to certain specialisations (e.g. one month internship with a lawyer and the next month a legal internship at a court, ...). These internships must be completed within one calendar year (e.g. with a lawyer in August and the legal internship in September) and each must last at least one month with at least 20 hours per week.
When combining the two internships, care must be taken to ensure that they correspond to one of the following combinations:
* Explanations of the combinations: BFG = Federal Fiscal Court, FMA = Financial Market Authority, RB = legal advisors, RAbt = internship in legal departments of companies, institutions and organisations, court = internship as a legal advisor at courts in criminal/civil matters (internships at courts are offered to students under the designation "legal advisor"; not to be confused with the court internship, which is aimed at graduated lawyers)
What do I get out of it?
If you fulfil these requirements, you can have your two internships as part of the Law in Practice programme credited for various courses and you can also obtain a certificate that will be useful to you in the professional world.
Credit is already possible for the following LVAs:
Completion as part of a separate LVA with 3 ECTS, e.g.
Consideration as collaboration in a related LVA, e.g.
Please note: Depending on the course, individual internships (without combination) can also be recognised. A corresponding combination is only required for the "Law in Practice" certificate.
The range of courses for crediting will be continuously expanded in the coming semesters!
When does the internship programme start?
The recognition of internships for the LVAs and the issuing of certificates will be possible in pilot operation from summer semester 2024. Currently, the Law In Practice is integrated into individual LVAs, from winter semester 2024/2025 there will then be a broader LVA offer.
The respective course leader will then be responsible for crediting in the courses (in the pilot phase).
The certificate will be issued by the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Law.
Can internships already completed be recognised?
Yes, internships completed in 2023 can also be credited. Proof must be provided here:
In the appendix you will find an information brochure with all the important information summarised once again!
If you have any other questions, you can contact us at any time by e-mail ( jus@oeh.jku.at).
We look forward to your participation in the Law In Practice programme!
Best regards,
Elena Lautner (Faculty Chair ÖH JUS)
