ÖH JKU – Your Representation

Working for you

About Us

The Hochschülerinnen- und Hochschülerschaft an der JKU Linz (abrv. to ‘ÖH JKU’) is your legal representative during your studies.

We negotiate with the rectorate and other departments at JKU to create an ideal study environment for you. We also offer comprehensive consultations on various topics as well as great services, and we organise events to make your studies at JKU a time to remember!

We provide transparent information about our work on this website – take a look!

Targeted Representation

Structure

Your representation is organised at various levels.

  1. Study Representation (StV): Your StV is your direct representative: Each degree programme is assigned to a StV. Your StV takes care of your curriculum, resolves conflicts with your lecturers and advises you on study-related issues. The StVs belong to a faculty, just like their fields of study, and work together through a Faculty Representation.
  2. University Representation (UV): The UV coordinates the individual study and faculty representations and takes care of university-wide issues, such as negotiations with the rectorate. When we talk about 'ÖH JKU', we usually mean the UV.
  3. Federal Representation (BV): The BV coordinates the individual university representations and advocates for issues throughout Austria. It also advocates for student rights vis-à-vis the legislature.

Every two years (in May of odd-numbered years), these levels are elected individually – they are therefore fundamentally independent of each other, but of course work together to ensure you have ideal representation. The members of UV and BV are elected as lists (similar to political parties), while in the StVs you elect your direct representatives.

The Chair of ÖH JKU consists of three people and is determined during the ÖH election and the subsequent coalition talks. The char is responsible for all day-to-day political tasks and implements the decisions of the UV.

The Chair is supported in its tasks by Departments: These essentially are specialist groups for various topics and have specially trained staff, for example on topics such as study law, the grant system and accessibility.
