Your Representation in the University Senate

What is the Senate

Alongside the Rectorate and the University Council, the Senate is the highest governing body of the university. It has a say in the curricula and JKU's statutes, issues statements, and is involved in the composition of the Rectorate and the University Council. The Senate also has numerous subcommittees that perform a wide variety of tasks, from appointment committees for new professors to the Committee for Equal Opportunities.

As students, we are working on your behalf in the Senate to bring a student perspective to decision-making processes and to advocate for your rights.

The University Senate consists of 26 members: 13 university professors, 6 university lecturers or research assistants (“Mittelbau”), 1 representative of the general university staff, and - this is where we come in - 6 students. Senate Structure

Committees and Working Groups

With 26 members, it is not practical to hold all discussions in one large group. For this reason, the University Senate sets up various subcommittees that decide on smaller matters themselves and prepare larger decisions.

CPK
As its name suggests, the Curriculum Examination Committee reviews changes to the curricula. The proposed changes come from the individual Study Committees (StuKos). While the StuKos are made up of members of the respective Study Representations, the CPK includes two students in addition to legal and organizational advisors, professors, and representatives of the mid-level faculty.
Members: Jonas Feldhofer, Verena Ehrengruber, Marco Pichler (substitute), Melanie MĂŒller (substitute)

AKG
The Committee for Equal Opportunities is independent of the Senate and not bound by any instructions. Among other things, it takes action in cases of discrimination against university members on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion, ideology, age, or sexual orientation, and is committed to gender equality. It is thus involved in all university committees.
Members: Alice Schwarz, Felix Ferchhumer (substitute)

Various Working Groups also draft non-binding proposals for the Senate. The following have been established for the current period:

  • Working Group "Gleichstellung, Frauenförderung und Frauenquote": Lilli Huber, Verena Ehrengruber
  • Working Group "Zukunft der universitĂ€ren Lehre": Verena Ehrengruber
  • Working Group "Gute Arbeitsbedingungen und Karrieremodelle": Anna Durstberger
  • Working Group "UniversitĂ€ten im Zeitalter der KĂŒnstlichen Intelligenz": Simon Plangger
  • Editorial Group "SatzungsĂ€nderungen": Markus Frandl, Verena Ehrengruber (Ersatz)
